After a strong game 1 victory on the Saturday, defending champions Thorengruppen IBK came back the next day on Sunday to beat opponents 1. SC. Vitkovice 6-4 and make it 3 years in a row they will compete in the Champions Cup Final.
The team from Umeå who have been for several years one of, if not the best Woman’s Floorball team in the world won Game 1 by 12 goals to 2 and came back for Game 2 to yet again show their strengths. No room in the lineups for defender Linn Larsson who unfortunately got injured at the end of Game 1 and therefore took no part in Game 2 on the Sunday. Both Goalkeepers from Saturday started game 2 on Sunday with Nikola Prileska for Vitkovice and Lovisa Hedin for Thorengruppen suiting up yet again.
It was yet again a quick start with both teams getting on the scoresheet early in the first period. 4 goals after 8 minutes left the score at 2-2 where it stayed for the end of the first 20 minutes. Physicality was certainly the story of Game 2 as both sides were not afraid to battle hard in the corners and for possession of the ball. The 2nd period followed with the aforementioned physicality a factor for sure. However the quality from the defending champions proved to be too much as a 3 goals in just a 2 minute span from Thorengruppen shocked the hosts and eventually proved to be too large of a mountain to climb as 5-2 turned into 6-4 for the Swedish side after 60 minutes. It was a spirited show by Vitkovice as they fought tirelessly but the talent on Thorengruppen proved to be too much in the end. Another Champions Cup Final awaits the defending champions as they look to claim a historic “three-peat” of three consecutive CC titles.
Thorengruppen now will await the winner between Pixbo and Chodov as Game 2 of their Semi-Final series will take place on December 1st in Prague.
